ABOUT HORTON CEO

Horton CEO was an organization formed from a Twitter Conversation.  Former Horton High School Student, McKenna Boller, started it all by tweeting about the youth in Horton and their role in ReinventHorton.  The idea of a student organization was then formed.  Community members were supportive of the idea.  As HHS teachers, we were on board as we would like to see ReinventHorton be as successful as possible.  We also would like to see more opportunities for our students.  Through Twitter converstations and meetings, we were able to develop Horton CEO.  As you can see below, there are many things that Horton CEO has to offer.  We are excited about the future of our organization, our students, and our community.

Job Shadowing

Whether you plan to go to work straight out of high school or eventually earn a PhD, whether you have a clear career goal or just want to learn something practical and new, you can benefit from CEO. We are hoping to allow students the chance to see career opportunities in our community along with providing guidance in choosing that career. By helping them build a resume, we can get them started moving in the right direction.

Projects

Our purpose is to equip members with the knowledge and skills necessary for community change and success; empower members with service-learning and leadership opportunities; and encourage members through individualized program planning, mentorship, and network support.  Projects will range from coordinating with Reinvent Horton to helping individuals and businesses.

Chromebooks

Committed, working members or CEO will be provided Chromebook Laptop Computers for them to take home and use during High School.  They will also be trained in ways to use the Chromebooks to enhance their school work and to provide them with useful tools for when they leave HHS.  Members will also use the Chromebooks for projects that will improve the community through technology.  The Chromebooks will serve not only as a  reward to those members that are involved and committed to the purposes of CEO, but also as a learning experience.  Members will be required to meet certain standards to be eligibile for a Chomebook.  Chromebooks will also be distributed depending on availability.

Scholarships

We hope to be able to provide scholarships to some of the members of CEO as they leave HHS and the organization.  The amount and quantity of scholarships will be dependent on fund availability.

Future Connections

Through Job Shadowing and Community Involvement, we are hopeful that members can develop connections to help them further their future career goals.  Whether members choose to return to Horton or go on to other places, it never hurts to have connections to help you along the way.  Of course, it would be great if members returned to enhance and improve our community.

Community Service

To meet our mission of inspiring leadership for the public good, the Horton CEO engages and empowers our students to experience the community they live in and how to make it a place where they want to come back to and thrive.  Working together, Horton students and teachers learn how to serve productively with businesses in the surrounding area that are often unfamiliar and challenging. While learning how to solve problems as they emerge and being exposed to complex issues, Horton students expand their view of themselves and their community. Students will come to understand that through their individual actions they make a positive difference in the lives of others.
